Is my electrical safety report still in date?
An electrical safety report (you may know it as an EICR) lasts five years. Put in the date from yours and we’ll tell you when the next inspection is due.
How often does a landlord need an electrical safety check (EICR)?
The wiring, sockets and fuse box must be inspected and tested by a qualified electrician at least every five years.
The council can fine you up to £40,000 each time.

Why so many are running out now
These reports became compulsory for existing tenancies in April 2021. They last five years, so the first big batch started running out in April 2026. Plenty of landlords don’t realise theirs has.
The fine for letting without a valid report is now up to £40,000. A lot of websites still quote an older, lower figure.
