Terms of use

These are the terms for using Quarterday, the website and the account. We’ve kept them short and plain. By creating an account you agree to them.

Who we are

Quarterday is run by its owner. You can reach us at hello@getquarterday.co.uk.

What Quarterday does

Quarterday keeps track of the dates the law gives landlords in England for each home they let, and emails a reminder before each one. It works out which duties apply from what you tell us about each home, shows you the law behind every date, and prepares your answers for the new landlord register. The free tools on the website work without an account.

What it isn’t: legal advice

You stay responsible for meeting your legal duties as a landlord. In particular:

• Reminders are a help, not a guarantee. Emails can be delayed, caught by spam filters or not arrive. Every date is always on your property page, so please check it there too.
• Our dates depend on what you tell us. If a date or detail you enter is wrong or out of date, the dates we work out from it will be too.
• Some information comes from public sources, such as the government’s energy certificate register and the national postcode directory. These can be incomplete or wrong. A certificate missing from the register doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
• The law changes. We check every figure against the law and show the date we last checked it. Changes that have been announced but aren’t yet law are marked as such, and never shown as something you’re in breach of.
• If you’re unsure about your position, speak to a solicitor, a landlord association or your council.

What it costs

Quarterday is free for one property, for good. For now, each account can hold one property. If we offer more, it will be your choice, we’ll tell you the price first, and you won’t pay anything unless you choose to. We never ask for a card to use the free service.

Your account

• You sign in with a link we email you, so anyone who can read your email can sign in. Please keep your email account secure.
• An account is for you. If you own a home with someone else, you can invite them as a joint owner: they see the same homes and get the same reminders. Only invite people you trust with that information.
• Please give us accurate details, including your name and contact address when you use the address lookup.

Using it fairly

Please don’t:

• try to get round our security or limits, or get into anyone else’s account
• use automated tools to make lookups, copy the site or collect its data
• copy, resell or reuse the addresses our address lookup returns, other than for managing your own homes in Quarterday. The address data is licensed to us for that use only.
• upload anything unlawful, or anyone else’s personal data beyond what a home’s certificates contain

Some features, such as the address lookup, have limits on how often they can be used. We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Unless there’s a good reason not to, we’ll tell you first and give you the chance to export your data.

Your information and documents

What you put into Quarterday stays yours. You allow us to store it and use it to run the service for you, as described in our privacy notice. You can export everything or delete your account at any time from Settings.

Changes to the service

We’re always improving Quarterday, so features will change. We aim to keep it running all the time, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance. If we ever decide to close it, we’ll email you at least 60 days before and you’ll be able to export your data.

Ending your account

You can delete your account whenever you like from Settings. Your homes, dates, documents and email history are deleted straight away, as our privacy notice explains.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. If you use Quarterday as a consumer, you also keep your legal rights. These terms don’t take them away.

Apart from that, and because Quarterday is a free reminder tool and you remain responsible for your legal duties:

• we aren’t responsible for fines, penalties, repayment orders, lost rent, legal costs or other losses that come from a legal duty not being met, including when a reminder didn’t arrive or a date was wrong
• we aren’t responsible for losses caused by information you gave us, or by public sources such as the energy certificate register or the postcode directory
• we aren’t responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable, or for loss of business or profits
• otherwise, our total responsibility to you is limited to £100

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email you at least 30 days before the change applies. The date at the top shows when they last changed.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be decided by the courts of England and Wales.
